Announcements:

December 2022
INTERTOLL GROUP TO ACQUIRE 50% SHAREHOLDING IN BOMBELA CONCESSION COMPANY OWNING GAUTRAIN PPP RAIL PROJECT IN SOUTH AFRICA
Bombela
Intertoll Group is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with Murray & Roberts Group in South Africa, for the acquisition of their 50% shareholding in the Bombela Concession Company that owns the Gautrain PPP project in South Africa with expected completion in early 2023 subject to the fulfilment of various suspensive conditions which are market-standard for a transaction of this nature.

The Gautrain Project
The Gautrain PPP project was originally awarded in 2006 by the Gauteng Provincial Government to design, build, operate, maintain and partially finance the Gautrain project. The Gautrain project is a South African PPP Project that includes the maintenance and operation of the Gautrain rapid rail system around the Johannesburg area. The Gautrain commenced operation in 2010 and to date has transported in excess of 60 million passengers and with an average punctuality of 98.4%, making the Gautrain one of the most reliable passenger train services in the world. The Gautrain offers international standards of public transport with high levels of safety, reliability, predictability, and comfort. Travelling at a maximum of 160 kilometres per hour, it connects Hatfield station with Johannesburg Park station in approximately 42 minutes, and Sandton station with OR Tambo International Airport in less than 15 minutes. The train service is complemented by a dedicated bus fleet that transports passengers in air-conditioned comfort between the stations and surrounding suburbs and business nodes. The trains, stations and buses are accessible to people with disabilities.

Intertoll Group Strategy for acquiring a rail project
The project is in line with the Intertoll Group’s strategic plan to diversify its portfolio of investments and to grow into new operations areas to complement its road portfolio. The acquisition provides an opportunity for the Intertoll Group to enter into a new and profitable investment stream within a stable PPP project currently operating in South Africa, and gain access to an experienced team on that project to assist in Intertoll expanding into further rail projects worldwide.
